Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony, who was first appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2020, also lied about being charged with murder, previous use of LSD, and operating with a suspended drivers license.

In no surprise to anyone remotely familiar with Florida politics, Democrat Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony has his fair share of baggage, which he has concealed in nearly every job application (and which is a state crime) for law enforcement positions during his time as a police officer in Florida starting in 2005.

Initially exposed by longtime Trump advisor Roger Stone nearly a half-decade ago, Tony’s involvement in a Philadelphia related murder when he was just 14-years old, was not discovered by DeSantis’ vetting team in 2020, when the Florida Governor spent less than a day evaluating Tony’s background after suspending the former Sheriff of Broward County in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting incident.
At the time, DeSantis praised heaped praise on Tony and subsequently referred to him as his favorite Democrat in the Sunshine State. Now, as Sheriff Tony has confirmed to news media that he plans on bucking the directives from President Trump to coordinate with ICE and other federal agencies in order to deport criminal illegal aliens and similar legislation legislation (supported and signed into law by Governor DeSantis) we thought it prudent to review Tony’s history of flouting the law.

“Tony, who is a Democrat, is facing criticism for lying on multiple law enforcement job applications in the state of Florida, and failing to disclose that he was charged with murder in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tony also lied on the same job applications about his drug use. In 2020, Tony embraced the BLM-Antifa riots, the Jane’s Revenge-Antifa vandalism of 2022, and the mostly peaceful Hamas protests of 2023. Due to this, Broward County, Florida, has become a crime-ridden criminal hotbed, and despite widespread calls over the last four years by other members of law enforcement who have called on DeSantis to remove Tony, DeSantis has refused. Ron DeSantis has the power to fire Tony, but instead, he has continued to praise or defend Tony every step of the way.”

Tony has long claimed that, at the age of 14, he shot an 18-year old individual in self defense, however, according to witness statements given to the Philadelphia Police Department in 1993, the victim was not posing a threat to Tony and even raised his hands in the air before the now Broward County Sheriff shot him dead.
“The Philadelphia Police Department homicide report also contains an eyewitness report from a man named David Serrano, who was visiting his father’s store down the street from where the murder happened. Serrano told police that he believed there was no reason for Tony to shoot Rodriguez, and Serrano thought Tony was in no danger at the time of the shooting. These details are key, as Tony claimed that his shooting was in self-defense.
Serrano’s account of the shooting is horrific, essentially describing a murder in cold blood. Serrano told Philadelphia Police officers, “Hector put his hands up like this. [Indicating his arms above his head with the palms facing forward, like a surrendering position] ‘Hector said if you’re going to shoot me, shoot me.’ Then Greg just shot him.”
Sheriff Tony lied about this on numerous applications for law enforcement positions in the state of Florida about the 1993 murder he stood trial for (although he was found not guilty). This isn’t the only time Tony has lied on employment applications for law enforcement positions, as he was denied from the Tallahassee Police Department in 2005 for lying about previous use of LSD and marijuana.
The Florida Constitution gives Ron DeSantis the power to fire Tony as the key clause reads of the state constitution reads, “Article IV, section 7(a), of the State Constitution, authorizes the Governor to suspend any state officer not subject to impeachment or any county officer on any of the following grounds: malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties, or commission of a felony.”
Worse yet, Tony has also spent $1million on DEI programs as Sheriff of Broward County as of 2023, took a knee with BLM radicals, let Antifa run amok in Broward County, and has even elevated the radical Islamist group CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations).

Gregory Tony also shares ties with elements of radical Islam. Tony hosted a ‘9/11 Memorial’ in 2022 that included noted member of the radical Islamic community, Shafayat Mohamed.
Mohamed runs an organization called the ‘Darul Uloom Institute‘, where he taught the convicted terrorist, “Dirty Bomber” Jose Padilla. Mohamed has even claimed that he prayed over several of the terrorists who committed the 9/11 terror attacks. See a photo of Tony and Mohamed below…
It’s no surprise that Broward County’s crime rate is higher than most locales in the United States for violent crime and property crime.
Given Tony’s clearly far-left history, litany of lies about his criminal past and drug use, and now open refusal to coordinate with ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens, it’s now time to call on Governor DeSantis to suspend Sheriff Tony from office once again.
Casey DeSantis, the wife of the Florida Governor will likely face questions about her husband’s elevation of Gregory Tony, if she follows through with her long rumored intentions of running against Trump endorsed GOP candidate for Governor of Florida Byron Donalds, who currently serves as a member of the United States Congress in Southwest Florida.
