Shady Connections: Erin Huntley, GOP Operatives, and PAC Finances Under Scrutiny

Erin Huntley, a candidate for Florida State House and the current Chairman of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee cannot be trusted… here’s why.

By Jacob Engels

New information about Erin Huntley, Chair of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee and a candidate for Florida House District 45, has raised concerns about her financial dealings and relationships with prominent Republicans. Ramba Consulting, a major political lobbying firm representing influential insurance companies, is central to these issues.

Huntley’s campaign received significant funding from Florida GOP officers and professional lobbyist Evan Power, who is not only the chair of the Florida GOP but also a partner at Ramba Consulting. Meanwhile, Congressman Daniel Webster, known for his cautious and meticulous approach to endorsements, appears to have deviated from his usual prudence by supporting Huntley without thorough vetting—a move seen by observers as unusually out of character for the aging Congressman.

Particularly concerning is Huntley’s apparent relationship with Bill Helmich, Florida GOP Executive Director, lobbyist, and longtime best friend and drinking associate of Evan Power, as noted by multiple legislative observers at the recent RNC convention in Milwaukee. Eyewitnesses described their interactions as eyebrow-raising, stating they were “all over each other at after parties and events,” with Huntley reportedly leveraging her charm and gender to curry favor among powerful political figures. This raises ethical concerns about potential undue influence and questions surrounding the integrity of her campaign.

Further deepening these ethical concerns is Huntley’s direct involvement in Representative.  Carolina Amesty’s loss, effectively clearing the way for Huntley’s own run. Observers now characterize this as a clear quid pro quo for Huntley’s decision not to field a Republican challenger against Democrat Carlos Guillermo Smith. Notably, Smith, who coincidentally attended Spanish River High School with Huntley, was the only Democrat to run without opposition, raising additional concerns. Huntley and Smith are reported to be close, having known each other since childhood, and are frequently seen embracing warmly when they greet. Their personal bond further fuels concerns about whether political favors may have influenced electoral outcomes.

Compounding these issues, Huntley maintains financial ties to entities closely linked to Florida’s insurance industry, an industry known for aggressive lobbying efforts. Her husband, a former youth pastor, is now the managing partner of Bass Industries, an insurance firm—further intertwining Huntley’s inner circle with insurance interests. These connections, notably through her association with Ramba Consulting and related PACs, have led watchdogs and observers to question whether special interests could unduly influence her policy decisions should she gain office. These same lobbyists are already preparing to defend their clients’ interests in the upcoming legislative session, signaling a coordinated effort to shape policy in their favor.

Critics argue that the convergence of these personal relationships, political connections, and financial interests could compromise her decision-making abilities, potentially placing special interests ahead of voters’ needs. Given these revelations, concerned Republican voters and transparency advocates are calling for increased scrutiny into Huntley’s campaign finances and her broader network of relationships.

As further details continue to emerge, the public deserves clear answers to these pressing questions to ensure integrity and transparency remain paramount in our political processes.
