While other mediums of art seemed to decline with the rapid technological advancement of the 21st century, photography was one that flourished. The aspect of digital advancement obviously had its impact, but analog film photography was also alive as ever.
Cameras became the second most necessary feature of cell phones, and now there are as many cameras as people anywhere you go. How about the art of it all though?
In addition to their current photography exhibit, The Beautiful Mysterious: The Extraordinary Gaze of William Eggleston, Mennello Museum is offering several classes on how to take your own perfect shot.
WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY: CAMERA MODES & ISOs
JULY 19 • 5:30 – 8:30 PM
Grab your digital or analog camera and get ready for class. Former Crealdé Studio Artist Sherri Bunye will be teaching users much about the manual aspect of the cameras. Students will learn about their camera’s ISO, how to choose the proper shutter speeds and aperture in this special workshop.
TEEN EDITION WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY: PINHOLE CAMERAS AND COMPOSITIONS
AUGUST 9 • 2 – 5 PM
Keeping the youth involved should be one of the most important endeavors of experienced artists. Jacoub Reyes will be doing just that as he instructs this class, while helping them design their own pinhole cameras. Afterwards, the class will take advantage of the ever-abundant scenery of Mennello’s waterside backyard to take exercise their new skills.

ARTS LECTURE: ELEMENTS OF THE EERIE BY DR. KERI WATSON
AUGUST 1 • 5:30 – 7:30 PM
Lead by UCF’s own Dr. Keri Watson, this lecture is sure to be a highlight for photography lovers. Take an in depth look at the cultural impact of photography throughout the years, as well as a refined and substantive analysis of the featured photographer, William Eggleston.
It’s great to see Mennello playing such an active role in the Orlando arts community. Often times I hear people, mainly transplants, complaining that Orlando isn’t as big as a Chicago, New York or wherever. While that may be true, there’s a lot budding here, and it’s thanks to places like Mennello. They open their doors so we can view art, and then they help us learn to make art of our own. That’s what it’s all about!
