Septic Is Ruining Our State

Why are environmentalists standing against stopping the expansion of dangerous and leaky septic systems?

Florida is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, mainly because of our beautiful natural resources, in particular or water.

From beaches to springs to rivers to lakes and more, people travel from far away to enjoy everything our state has to offer. As a longtime Florida resident, I know that us locals also benefit greatly from the natural treasures of our state.

Unfortunately though, there is a dangerous scourge threatening to destroy our beaches, our springs, our rivers, our state. For us and for the rest of the world, this is a huge problem.

What is that problem? Septic tanks.

While many Floridians rely on this for their sewage and wastewater disposal, environmental scientists and leading experts have recommended that we make the move towards sewer systems.

By ending the use of septic tanks they reason, Florida and several other areas in the USA can defeat the biggest polluter.

According to PBS, septic tanks have been imperiling our ecosystem for decades and it’s only getting worse. Florida Today has reported on the damage septic tanks are having on the Indian River Lagoon extensively, read that here.

And so the story goes for the rest of Florida as well.

The St. Johns River is infested with human waste and septic discharge from cheap and leaky systems. Lake Okeechobee is overrun with North and Central Florida septic leaks, and in turn that water flows into and infects the rest of the state.

However, in an odd move, many environmental groups are refusing to call for an end to septic tanks.

They refuse to ask for funding to switch residents from septic to sewage, instead they push a land purchase in South Florida that has been labeled a “government land grab.”

In that decision, organizations like Everglades Trust and Bullsugar are betraying the environment and our state for political purposes, being lead and funded by radical political operatives.

During a year where Americans and Floridians are already fed up with the selfish machinations of the political elite and shameless political operatives, we should demand an end to septic.

We should demand that environmental activist groups sign a pledge to #StopTheSeptic, and if they refuse, they will be exposed for being motivated by politics… not a love for Mother Earth.

If we don’t do this, our state’s natural gems will be destroyed and all Floridians will suffer.
