Orlando firefighter arrested after 18 vehicles damaged in parking garage

    An Orlando firefighter was arrested Monday after 18 vehicles were found damaged in a downtown Orlando parking garage.

     

    Korey Steinert, 22, is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, according to Orlando police.

     

    He was booked into the Orange County Jail and released later that day on bail. The Orlando Fire Department has started an internal investigation, a spokeswoman said.

     

    A witness told police he was driving up the parking garage at the Lofts at SoDo apartment complex off West Grant Street shortly after 4 a.m. Monday when he heard screeching and then a crash, according to a police report.

     

    The witness continued driving up the garage and said he was almost hit by a pickup truck as he rounded a corner. He said the truck had “major damage” and was heading down the garage, according to the report.

     

    Police said the witness followed the truck, until it parked on the second floor. A man got out, moved some things around in the truck, got back in and then started heading back up.

     

    The witness said it appeared as if the truck was following him and trying to hit him, so he parked behind a wall and got out.
