Where did Maribel Gomez Cordero get the funds to pay the qualifying fee to be placed on the ballot?

Earlier today, Doug Head linked Democrat Maribel Gomez Cordero visited the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office to drop off a $3,000 check to throw her hat in the ring against fellow Puerto Rican Democrat Euri Cerrud and the ethically challenged “GIRL TALK” GOP Commissioner Jennifer Thompson.
So why does this matter? Cordero, a fellow Hispanic and Democrat has had minimal campaign presence since jumping into the race 8 months ago and is viewed by many Democrats as a “spoiler” candidate who will split the Hispanic vote and catapult Jennifer Thompson to a second term.
A local democratic insider put it this way.
“Maribel is a pawn in an unhealthy revenge scheme Doug Head has with Scott Randolph and other party leaders. She does what Doug Head commands, even at the expense of handing this seat over to someone like Jennifer Thompson who takes her orders from big business. Where did she get the $3,049.77 for the filing fee when she has barely raised that in her 8 months of campaigning?”
Doug Head who once lead the Orange County Democrats more than a decade ago, is widely viewed by a majority of Democrats “in the know” as a tired, grumpy, jealous old man who is obsessed with regaining power at all costs. Cerrud, who has enjoyed support from Democrat activists, donors, volunteers, and leadership is an easy target for Head, who believes this will force his enemies to bend the knee.
Since jumping in the race last November, Maribel has held few public events and has not been seen walking door to door actively or engaging in other activites normal for a political candidate going up against a well funded opponent like Jennifer Thompson. She has been spotted around the county numerous times with Doug Head, and other local Democratic has beens.
Since her entry, Cordero has raised $1,985, having spent $855.66 of that money – leaving her with only $1,229.34 cash on hand.
GOP consultants & donors close to Thompson told me that Jennifer had talked of funding another “Hispanic Democrat” to cannibalize the Democratic vote in a desperate attempt to hold on to power.
“We told Jennifer that doing something like this with her spotty ethical background and sunshine law violation was not a good idea,” a top Republican donor said.
One has to wonder, did Thompson and her allies funnel money to Cordero who will split the Democratic vote and almost certainly guarantee her victory on August 26th? Did she work “across the aisle” with Doug Head to help him reach his goal of terrorizing fellow Democrats with his selfish tactics?
OR, did Cordero loan herself that $3,049.77? WE DON’T KNOW. All we do know is that it stinks & Cordero should come clean about where she got this money and how she was able to pay for this fee, if she did in fact pay out of pocket.
