Sunshine law violator extraordinaire Jennifer Thompson will have to look over her shoulder this Saturday, February 15th. Her opponent, Hispanic lawyer and community leader Euri Cerrud will hold a grassroots campaign kick-off in the embattled commissioners home neighborhood of Avalon Park. It will be held at the popular Avalon Park restaurant Casa Mofongo at 10AM.

Cerrud has been hitting the issue of transparency hard on the campaign trail, drawing attention to Jennifer Thompson’s ethical lapses amid a controversial “sick-time” vote that led the commissioner to delete text messages between her and a Disney lobbyists in the time surrounding the vote. The State Attorney found Thompson and her mentor Teresa Jacobs guilty of destroying public records and violating Florida’s “Sunshine Laws.”

“The response and commitment from the community to me has been unbelievable,” says Cerrud.  “Together we can bring transparency to District 4 with leadership that walks the talk.”

Over the coming weeks, Cerrud and his supporters will hold grassroots events from East Orlando to Meadow Woods, speaking with small business owners and local residents about the issues at stake in their communities.

“Every neighborhood in District 4 has its own unique set of concerns and challenges,”  emphasizes Cerrud.  “That’s why I’m here, to listen to their stories, their needs, and how together we can move towards smart and united progress.”

Efforts to reach Orange County Commissioner Jennifer Thompson were unsuccessful. She read, but did not respond to facebook messages requesting comment. Maybe we should have texted her.
