Late Wednesday afternoon, State Representative Joe Saunders (D-49) announced on his campaign facebook page that his Affordable Care Act enrollment fair was a success. Saunders, whose district is based in East Orlando narrowly beat Florida Hospital executive and former UCF student body President Marco Pena in 2012. Pena now serves on the board of the Orange County Expressway Authority.

Tuesday night, State Representative Joe Saunders in collaboration with groups such as Enroll America, PCAN (Primary Access Care Network), Hispanic Health Initiatives and others hosted a bi-lingual Health Care Enrollment Fair at Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.
The event attracted residents from around the East Orlando area who still needed to purchase care through the new health insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act. After partnering with English and Spanish-speaking Health Insurance Navigators on site, many residents were able to complete the enrollment process and purchase coverage for themselves and in some cases, their entire family.
Representative Saunders offered the following statement:
“The Health Care Enrollment Fair was a great success in helping constituents not only learn more about the new healthcare law but actually getting them enrolled in affordable care for themselves and their families. Under the new law, most Americans need to have health insurance by March 31, 2014, so these events are important in ensuring all Floridians have the opportunity to explore what different options are available so they can select a plan that is right for them.”
