On Sunday night, I visited The Social in Downtown Orlando to go see Aaron Lee Tasjan play a set with his friend and Texas based musician Jonny Burke (More on him this week). Aaron, who has been in several prominent bands like Alberta Cross, Semi Precious Weapons, The Madison Square Gardeners, and The New York Dolls, decided to go solo a little over a year ago.
Since then, he has released The Thinking Man’s Filth in November 2012 and his song “Apathy Junkie” from an earlier release will be featured in the upcoming Steve Carell film “The Way, Way Back”. Not bad for the first year on his own huh?
As for Aaron’s performance, we were digging it. His folksy approach gives him the vibe of a less sad Conor Oberst…..and everyone knows I love me some Conor Oberst, so if I am comparing him to Conor, you know he is pretty damn good. The best part about the concert aside from the music was watching Aaron play. You could really sense how involved and intertwined he was with the music, even though he was playing Burke’s songs. That’s when you know someone really loves music.
To learn more about Aaron and how he got his song into one of the most sought after films at Sundance this year check out the video below —
